Mariza is 12 years old and is from Romania. She arrived in Spain two months ago with her mother. They are without travel documents in the country. Her mother travelled with Marzia with the promise of a well-paying job in agriculture. What she didn’t know is that the man that arranged her travel from Romania stole their documents and when they arrived in Spain they were illegally in the country. The man says they have to work in a bar and prostitute themselves if they want their documents back.
Mariza and her mother are desperate and don’t know what to do. They still know too little Spanish to contact the authorities, and Mariza still isn’t in school. One night they were out in the street and were contacted by volunteers of a non-governmental organisation that offered support (food, clothes and information). The volunteers considered the risk factors.
